Medi-Cal Enrollment
Medi-Cal offers free or low-cost healthcare to qualifying children and adults in the state of California. TrueCare accepts all forms of Medi-Cal, and can help you determine if you are eligible for the program. We can also assist you in selecting a program that’s right for you and/or your family, make sure you’re properly enrolled, and explain how to use your benefits.
To prepare for your enrollment appointment, these documents are required:
- Photo ID
- Birth Certificate (or USA Passport, Naturalization Certificate or Permanent Resident Card)
- Social Security Card
- Income Verification – Income tax return, three most recent pay stubs or letter from employer (Letter must state how much the applicant/spouse earns and how often. Must also include employer name, address, date, and signature)
- Proof of child support received (letter or statement)
- Proof of California residency (water/ electric bill, CA ID or driver’s license)

Expansions to Medi-Cal as of May 1, 2022
California expanded eligibility for full-scope Medi-Cal to individuals 50 years or older, regardless of immigration status. Those previously enrolled in restricted Medi-Cal have been rolled over automatically to full-scope Medi-Cal.

Covered California Enrollment
Covered California is a free service that connects Californians with brand-name health insurance under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. It’s the only place where you can get financial help when you buy health insurance from well-known companies. That means when you apply, you may qualify for a discount on a health plan through Covered California, or get health insurance through the state’s Medi-Cal program. Either way, you’ll have great health coverage.
We can also assist you in selecting a program that’s right for you and/or your family, make sure you’re properly enrolled, and explain how to use your benefits.
For patients with no insurance, we can:

Medicare Enrollment
Medicare is health insurance for people 65 or older. You’re first eligible to sign up for Medicare 3 months before you turn 65. You may be eligible to get Medicare earlier if you have a disability, End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), or ALS (also called Lou Gehrig’s disease).

CalFresh Enrollment
TrueCare provides free enrollment assistance in CalFresh. CalFresh (also known as SNAP, food stamps, or EPT) is a program for low-income families and individuals that meet certain income guidelines. CalFresh benefits help supplement your food budget and allow you and your family to buy nutritious food.
When applying for or renewing CalFresh, please bring:
- Proof of expenses: rent receipt or contract, mortgage, SDG&E, water and telephone bills
- Child’s proof of school (Grades or Registration)
- Most recent bank statement
- Car registration
- Childcare expenses and paid child support
- Immunizations for children under 6
Cal-Fresh recipients are now able to use their EBT/debit card for food purchases online at Amazon and Walmart.

What enrollments can TrueCare help me with?
We can assist you in enrolling in affordable health insurance in California, including Medi-Cal, CoveredCA, Medicare, as well as CalFresh, California’s food stamps program. When can I enroll in Medi-Cal, CoveredCA, or CalFresh?
Medi-Cal and CalFresh have enrollment year round, so you can apply at any time. CoveredCA open enrollment is usually November through January. For most qualifying life events, you have 60 days from the date of your event to enroll in a Covered California health insurance plan or change your existing plan.
Medicare open enrollment is typically October through December, as well as within 2 full calendar months of most qualifying life events or three months prior to turning 65 years old.
How long does the application and approval process take?
In most cases, your application can be completed in one meeting with a TrueCare Programs & Resources Specialist. The approval process takes about 45 days.
